Cate Belleveau has directed theatrical productions for the following : The Paul Bunyan Playhouse in Bemidji, MN the Long Lake Theater in Longville, MN, Bemidji Minnesota HS, various regional schools, and finally for the Mask and Rose Theater all in MN for whom she serves as Artistic Director and co-founded with Patty Lester. Favorite shows directed could be listed as Les Miserables , Joseph and the ATDC, Bye Bye Birdie, Voice of My Own, Disney’s HSM, Peter Pan, Helen Keller, Shakespeare’s As You Like It , Once Upon a Mattress, I Am An Emotional Being, Proof, The Clean House, Labels, and Ajax in Iraq, Evita Something Rotten and Hadestown HS to name a few. Her favorite acting roles lean toward the dark - Nurse Ratchet in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, bawdy wit Touchstone in As You Like It , Madame Thenardier in Les Mis and Hester in Equus to name a few. Her husband Al, a sculptor, and she are building a multi use arts space and founded an artist residency space in rural Puposky, MN in Spring of 2014 called Belle Thalia which will house artists in yurts/cabins ( she spent time teaching in Kyrgyzstan thus the influence ) and offer retreat for artists as well as classes for those who would like to refine skills or learn in a rural setting. Other favorite activities are serving on the Bemidji Sculpture Walk, kayaking ( in thick of kayaking all of the 274 lakes of Beltrami County), gardening, writing (published a children’s book in New Zealand, wrote and directed the play “Christmas at Secret River” for the Red Lake Indian Nation, "Why Cranes Have Long Legs” for the Leech Lake Indian Nation, and recently wrote her original play about the Hemingway women entitled “Mary 4 Martha 3 - NO Footnotes”. She recently had a memoir about world travels and her kayaking 274 lakes of her county , Beltrami County , in northern MN via Riverfeet Press of Montana entitled “Kayak Cate ”. She served as travel writer for Northwoods Woman magazine), taking part in Poetry Slams , traveling ( trip to Mt. Everest base camp, kayaking in Greece, chasing down gypsy thieves in Milano, Italy as highlights). She has enjoyed training in ensemble style theater when she studied a summer in California with Delle Arte’ International through a recently awarded McKnight Fellowship, with Robert Rosen of the former Tony award winning Theater de La Jeune Lune in Minneapolis as well as with Julian Boal of Theater of the Oppressed in Austin, TX. She and her husband , a sculptor , were awarded the 2012 “Friends of the Arts” by the Watermark Center for their decades of art engagement and production . Cate was awarded a fellowship to the National Women’s Theater Conference in North Carolina .
