Christal Gresham

Christal Gresham has been singing, dancing and performing for most of her life. Born in 1963, in Vallejo, California. To a military father and school teacher mother. She has lived and studied classical dance all over the world. Christal has lived in; Boston, California, France, Georgia, Germany, London England, New Mexico, and Ohio. In 1980 Christal was accepted to Fort Hayes School of the Performing Arts in Columbus, Ohio. Her Junior year she was the understudy for Queenie, in “Showboat, and senior she took the lead of Bonnie in, “Anything Goes.” She was awarded the Most Outstanding Soloist of her graduating class in 1981. She was a prodigy of the late Jack Gibbs. Her vocal teacher Re-Marie Swartz encouraged her to sing Classical music, but her love was Gospel, Jazz and Broadway. Her career in the entertainment industry started the summer before her senior year ended she landed a spot in John Kanley’s Productions of a, “Show Stopper” a Summer Stock production in Columbus, Ohio. After graduation, Christal was in her element! From there Christal landed her dream job, at the NCO and Officer’s Club in Newport News, Virginia at Langley Airforce base. Now known as the “Langley Club”. There she was featured, every Fri, Sat, and Sun evening as the lead female singer supported by a full military band. To end her summer Christal went on to dance and sing at Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky, Ohio where she was one of 12 men and women featured in the park’s theme show, “America Sings”, where Solid Gold style dancing, and popular cover and Broadway tunes were performed. Christal did her Freshman year of College at Ohio State University with a major in dance. Her second year, she transferred to Elizabeth City State University, in North Carolina to continue her studies with a major in vocal music and minor in dance. Christal landed the leading role of Bonnie in the college’s annual play “Bus Stop.” Christal was a Alpha Sweetheart for the Alpha-Phi-Alpha Fraternity Inc., and crowned Miss Black & Gold in 1983. Christal received her bachelors degree in Business Management & Administration from Ohio Christian University, in Sandusky, Ohio. Christal was the understudied for Queenie in Show Boat. Was cast and chorus, in Anything Goes off Broadway in San Diego, California with the Starlight Theater, Summer Stock in 1987. She has sang at the Coronado Club, in Coronado, California, with the talented Cynthia Hale, Big Wayne, Hosea Hooks, and Kehne Henderson. In 2001, she started her own 11 piece jazz band, “The Jazz Sound of Christal.” Christal has directed youth choir’s, adult choir’s and has served as praise and worship leader. She also produced the all male teen Gospel Hip-Hop group “STANDOZ for Christ”. Christal did a Jazz sampler, Time Alone With Me”, with the talented Kehne Henderson. For 911 She wrote and produced “Come Walk with Me.” Christal was featured in duet, “What Is Love”, with her brother Marcus Gresham on his first solo album, “For the Rest of My Life!” Christal is a member of ASCAP, where she is both a song writer and publisher
