Douglas Moser

After acting in college and late professional children’s theatre, where he specialized in playing adolescents and weirdos, Douglas Moser spent the majority of his professional career as a director and member of SDC. After a brief internship at Hartford Stage Company began his professional career doing summer stock. At 26 he was named artistic director of a small professional theatre in Fairfield Connecticut, with edgy productions considered “off-Broadway in Connecticut.” His adaptation is “A Christmas Carol” After acting in college and, later, in professional children’s theatre — where he specialized in playing adolescents and weirdos — Douglas Moser spent the bulk of his career as a director and member of SDC. Following a brief internship at Hartford Stage Company, he began professionally in summer stock, and at 26 was named artistic director of a small professional theatre in Fairfield, Connecticut, known for edgy work dubbed “off-Broadway in Connecticut.” His stage adaptation of A Christmas Carol earned a Connecticut Critics Circle Award for the Westport Country Playhouse production. He made his opera debut directing the world premiere of Patience & Sarah at Lincoln Center, and on stage directed Jack Lemmon and Brett Somers in Glacier Bay — later adapted into an acclaimed film he directed, starring James Noble and Dorothy Bryce. Beyond the theatre, Moser spent many years in the corporate world as coordinator of internal communications for McKinsey & Company, and has taught playwriting at the Westport Writers’ Workshop. He is also a playwright and, most recently, the author of the dark comic novel James & Jim. Of course, reading all those scripts reignited the acting bug. And now — after nearly 50 years — he’s finally old enough to play the grown-ups.
