I have done two featured backgrounds- one as a piano player at a wedding rehearsal party, and one as a comatose wheelchair-bound paraplegic who is healed by prayer in my scene. I was not given any idea of the scene before I was placed in the wheelchair. The director/writer just gave me a long and specific description of what he wanted from me in the performance. He ended up doing 8 takes in 5 hours, wanting every angle, close-ups, etc.. At the end he came up to me and said: You had to prove 2 things to me: 1) that you were truly comatose and paraplegic-and you did that. 2) You had to convince me that you were truly healed by prayer, and you completely did that. That was an Oscar-worthy performance, and if we go for a Golden Globe, you’re coming with us I was stunned to say the least, and got a “that was amazing “ comment from none other than Arman Garo.
