Jennifer Akers

I’m a wife, mom, Christian, social worker, entrepreneur, sourdough enthusiast, and perpetual collector of hobbies, adventures, and animals. With a Master’s degree in Social Work and nearly 20 years of experience, I’ve built a career working with people from just about every walk of life. My professional background spans criminal justice, nonprofit and for-profit organizations, and both the private and public sectors of social services. I’ve worked with children, adults, families, and communities—and after two decades in the field, I’m still endlessly fascinated by people, their stories, and what makes them who they are. I grew up in the Northeast, but life has taken me through the South, the Pacific, and eventually to the Midwest, which I now call home. Somewhere along the way, I’ve raised children, ducks, rabbits, and dogs, started my own business, helped my husband run his, and developed a serious love affair with sourdough. I’m naturally fun, bubbly, bright, and curious. I love people, good conversation, laughing until my stomach hurts, and finding reasons to celebrate the ordinary. I’m just as happy dressed up with a glass of wine as I am outside with muddy shoes, fishing pole in hand, watching birds or tending to animals. When I’m not working, baking, or taking care of my crew, you’ll probably find me lifting weights, reading a book, cooking something delicious, dancing, fishing, boating, exploring the outdoors, bird watching, or dreaming about my next trip to the beach. I appreciate good food, good wine, a good margarita, sunshine, music, and anything that brings the people I love together. My faith is at the center of who I am. It shapes the way I love my family, serve others, approach my work, and move through the different seasons of life. I’ve worn a lot of hats and lived a lot of life—and I think that’s part of what makes it fun. I’m a social worker by education, an entrepreneur by experience, a baker by passion, a wife and mom at heart, and someone who genuinely believes there is always something new to learn, someone new to love, and something worth celebrating.
