Karel Sloane-Boekbinder

Karel Sloane-Boekbinder’s mediums are words (creative nonfiction, research texts, fiction, poems, scripts,) music (singer/songwriter,) performance (stage and film) visual (painting, photography) and digital (video.) She is an Equity Member Candidate and a SAG Eligible actor represented by King Watts Talent. Sloane-Boekbinder has been featured in two Spike Lee films, "Miracle at St. Anna" and “Old Boy." Her stage work includes, among others, Ashé Cultural Arts Center's "13 Lessons," the Wicked Witch of the West/ Almira Gultch in "The Wizard of Oz" at The Jefferson Performing Arts Society, the Widow Douglas in "Freedom River" and Runaway in "How We Met and Other Events," both part of The International Festival of Arts and Ideas in Connecticut, Muriel Humphery in “All the Way” at Southern Rep and various improv roles for New Orleans Killer Theater. She has performed in New Orleans Fringe Fest, New Orleans' DramaRama, The Cassandra Project in Portland, Maine and with companies such as Niles Creative Group (at the Ed Sullivan Theater on Broadway,) New England Academy of Theater, Yale Children's Theatre, The Womens International League for Peace and Freedom, The New Haven Shakespeare Company, Shoe Box Theater and Grumbling Gryphons Traveling Children's Theater. She has studied acting at the Brecht Forum, Herbert Berghof Studios and Simon Studios in NYC, with Augusto Boal, founder of Theater of the Oppressed and at Southern Connecticut State University with the late Tony Award winning playwright/director Joseph Walker (The River Niger.)
