Monte Barrett’s bio Monte Barrett is from Jamaica Queens NY and is a former heavyweight champion American boxer who competed from 1996 - 2014. Monte had a very successful amateur background with 37-3 24ko’s in a two year span Monte was inducted in to the New York Boxing Hall of Fame and honorable mention for the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2019. He won the WBC Continental Championship in 1999 and the WBO Asian Pacific and WBO Oriental Heavyweight titles in 2011. Monte Barrett has fought for the world heavyweight championship twice: once in 2005 for the WBC and again in 2006 for the WBA. Monte Barrett has fought on the highest level of boxing going toe to toe with top heavyweights, leaving it all in the ring like champions do! He’s known in the boxing community as a honorable man and is well respected in his arena and community with a larger then life personality. Barrett also has a gym in St. George SC and is looking to open one in Summerville and Orangeburg soon. Monte also has a documentary series he’s working on with tv producer Connor Hicks with his life story before,during and after boxing. Monte also does USA amateur boxing bouts for the state of South Carolina, he’s done 3 boxing shows currently and had over 220 kids participate. He currently has a Boxing after dark venue once a month in Summerville. He’s also being inducted into the SC and NC Boxing Hall of Fame next year April 23 2027
