Monte Lee Thornton

Monte Lee Thornton is a multifaceted FortWorth Texas-based 100% disabled veteran. 1998 attended actor training course Mecury Studios Houston, Texas. I am an artist, educator, and marine professional whose work bridges fine art, maritime heritage, and the natural world. With a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Communication, an MBA (4.0 Honors), and a Master of Education in Curriculum & Instruction, Monte brings both creative vision and professional depth to his practice. Over the last six years, he has evolved his distinctive landscape style by integrating elements of the Baroque movement—dramatic light, rich texture, and dynamic composition—while remaining deeply rooted in the Caribbean environment. Monte’s paintings capture the vibrant colors, luminous quality, and intricate details of the Cayman Islands, with a current series focused on nature scenes from Cayman Brac and Grand Cayman. A long-time resident of the islands since 2005 (and a frequent visitor since 1989), Monte has witnessed profound changes in the landscape. One of his earliest Cayman paintings, now in a private collection, depicts the once-serene beach at the Royal Palms Hotel—an iconic view that has been transformed by modern development. As a wildlife and marine life illustrator, schooner maritime illustrator, scuba instructor, and accomplished underwater and landscape photographer, Monte draws directly from personal experience and extensive documentation. His reference photography allows him to render scenes with remarkable realism and photographic accuracy, while his passion for Impressionism shines through in his latest series of luminous ocean landscapes, where loose, expressive brushwork captures the movement and atmosphere of the sea.
