Oy Gevalt …it’s been years! The last time I accepted a role I was cast opposite of a stranger who played my husband in “Bernie’s Bar Mitzvah” at our JCC community theatre in 1998, only to keep that shtick up for the past 28 years, as I put him in the headlock of wedlock exactly 2 years later, on the anniversary of our first kiss. I can add or drop my “Jewish accent” (Long Island meets Chicago), my Midwest elocution (I mean, do we really have an “accent”?), and my ever-so-slight Southern drawl (that my mishpacha in Illinois insist I have, when I visit home). I’m a bit zaftig, but just enough to where I could fill a storyline of a romantic interest to a man who has a fetish for a little cushion (for the pushin’, as the saying goes), or some other “but she’s got a pretty face” role. I’m not sensitive at all about my weight. I have long, auburn hair that can be styled or sheytled, depending on the role, anywhere from Boho-hip to military bun suited up attorney or physician or authority figure. It’s been a minute, but I can muster, if given the opportunity… (Wait a minute…I was a single gal pulling off a wife role, and here I am 28 years later, still in character.)
