Every submission to a casting call has a status that tracks where it is in the director's review process. Here's what each one means.
Submitted
Your profile has been added to the director's submission queue but they haven't taken action on it yet. This is the default state for every submission until the director engages.
Viewed
The director has opened your profile detail. This means they read your bio, looked at your photo, and considered you for the role. Not every viewed submission goes further — but viewed submissions are far more likely to lead somewhere than ones that haven't been opened yet.
Shortlisted
The director has flagged your profile as someone they're seriously considering. This is the strongest positive signal short of an introduction request. Shortlisted submissions often go to the next round of casting decisions.
Declined
The director has decided not to move forward with you for this specific role. It almost always means the role wasn't right for you, not that something is wrong with your profile. You'll still match to other casting calls from this same director — being declined on one role doesn't affect future matching.
What about "Connected"?
"Connected" isn't a submission status — it's a separate signal that means the director has accepted an introduction request and you both now have each other's contact info. This is when conversations move off-platform. We don't mediate that conversation; from that point on you're working directly with the production.
Things to keep in mind
- Statuses don't always advance in order. A director can shortlist you without marking your profile as viewed first.
- No status change isn't a rejection. Many roles get cast quickly and the director simply doesn't go back to update older submissions. Silence is common; don't read into it.
- Statuses are per-submission, not per-director. Being declined on one casting call has no impact on whether you match to that director's other calls.
