Warren A Patton was born in Chicago, IL, October 15, 1954; to Willie and Adriana Patton, had a brother Victor, and two sisters: Sandra and Kristian! He graduated from Gary West Side High School, Gary, Indiana, in the 1973, and was awarded a football and track scholarship to South Carolina State College, Orangeburg, SC. While at SC State, he played on the football team and was a standout high jumper on the track team. Before completing his degree, at South Carolina State, he joined the U.S. Navy in December 1978, where he was assigned to bootcamp at the Naval Station, Great Lakes, Illinois. While there, he was selected as Recruit Chief Petty (RPOC) for company 952 (State Flags). Following bootcamp, he received orders to the Navy School of Broadcasting, at the Navy Defense Information School, Fort Benjamin Harrison, IN. Following graduation, he was subsequently assigned to the pre-commissioning crew of the USS Cimarron (AO-177), in San Diego, CA, becoming the ship's first journalist. After the Cimarron was released from the Avondale Shipyards, the pre-commissioning crew was transferred up to the San Francisco Bay area, where the ship was officially commissioned at the Naval Supply Center, Oakland, CA., in January 1981. In 1982, the USS Cimarron changed homeports to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, where he served as the ship's official photographer and editor of the USS Cimarron's first Cruise Book. During his tour of duty on the Cimarron, he had the opportunity to make a Western Pacific (WESTPAC)deployment to Guam; Singapore, Republic of the Philippines; Hong Kong; Pusan Korea and Sasebo Japan. Following 5 years of duty, on the Cimarron, in the spring of 1983, he was re-assigned to the staff of Commander Naval Base, Pearl Harbor, where he worked in the Public Affairs Office. In his official capacity, he was the staff photojournalist, wrote feature stories, served as a speech writer, ran the Navy speaker's bureau, and assisted in the coordination of major military public relations events, including Armed Forces Day programs, and Blue Angels airshows. In the spring of 1987, he was re-assigned to the Navy Recruiting District, San Francisco, as the command’s staff journalist and Editor of the command's monthly newsletter. In 1990, he was reassigned to the Navy Recruiting Orientation Unit (NORU), as a trainer/inspector for Navy Recruiting District Journalists. Following that tour of duty, in December of 1993, he was re-assigned to the staff of Commander Naval Base, Treasure Island, CA. While on the admiral's staff, he served as Chief Journalist and admiral's speech writer. He also was a coordinator of Navy Fleet Week activities in San Francisco and represented the Navy on the Oakland Chamber of Commerce. In the spring of 1997, he was re-assigned as the Public Affairs Officer for Navy Recruiting Area EIGHT, Oakland, CA, where I retired from active duty on January 31, 1999, after 20 years’ service. During my Navy career, he took advantage of the Navy's Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) and earned his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and master’s degree in public administration, attending classes, nights and weekends. His military awards include the Navy Commendation Medal; several Navy Achievement Medals; and other awards and citations. He was married and divorced twice, while in the Navy; has a son, Thomas, and two granddaughters: Averi and Amani! Since, his retirement from the U.S. Navy, he has worked in a various of jobs, currently resides in Gary, IN, is a member of a local church, active in the community, has an interest in computers, photography, plays chess; and is a member of the Gideons International. I recently retired from the Amazon Facility in Markham, IL, on February 14, 2026, to take care of my 92 year-old mother full-time!
